When you need to keep healthy, everyone understands how important it is to get enough Vitamin C. Everybody is always talking about just how much Vitamin C will help an individual. When you get the flu, what is the first thing folks say to you? "Take a tablet of Vitamin C!" Today, though, there is a little bit of concern about if Vitamin C would stop the common cold at all.



You've heard about Echinacea before now. The primary idea behind Echinacea is that, if you take it whenever you feel the first few cold symptoms, you will be able to keep that cold from setting in. In recent years, however, a growing number of studies have found that Echinacea is not much more than a placebo effect for people suffering from the common cold. The very best the supplementation can do is cut short your cold by twenty hours. It is not really some sort of remedy.

So how do you stop that cold from setting in? Here are some tips to really give you a hand.

1. Keep your hands fresh. Clean the hands a whole lot. This is one of the most effective and most surefire ways to really ward off a common cold. Why should this perform so effectively? Think about it. Our hands come into contact with more cold and flu bacteria than any other part of our body. Think of all of the stuff you touch during a day. Every time you touch a product or surface that has been touched by someone who is experiencing the flu or a cold, your likelihood of getting sick are increased. The more reguarily you wash the hands, the less likely it is that one of the microbes you have contact with will get the opportunity to work its way into your system.

2. Get a large amount of rest. It's tempting, particularly when times are aggravating, to stay up later. Maybe you need to complete much more. Maybe you want to go out with your friends. There's a show you would like to watch. Each of these things, nevertheless, cuts down on the rest that you get at night. Your body needs to get a proper amount of rest so that it has enough energy to fight off infection. When you happen to be catching your zzz's and asleep the body has a chance to do maintenance and make repairs. The more sleep you get, the easier a time your body will have preventing infection and then getting rid of it if it happens to take hold of you anyway.

3. Remain hydrated. Your entire body demands at least eight eight ounce cups of drinking water every day to be healthy. Your body requires the hydration to help it eliminate the toxins that have taken up residence in your system. If you aren't properly hydrated, bacteria just hang in there instead of getting flushed out. Don't forget: your system can last about a week without eating solid food. Without water, you'll only last a day or two. This on it's own should make you understand just how important proper hydration is.

Here's the thing: there is no sensational cure for the flu. All you have is common sense and taking preventative measures like washing your hands, getting enough rest and staying hydrated.
